The balance left after your AY 2026-27 return — in the tax audit report and the ITR schedule. Tax year 2026-27 below means 1 April 2026 – 31 March 2027.
We spread the credit evenly from this year to AY 2026-27. Type the exact split in “Your credit year by year”.
Your total income without the deductions the 22% regime takes away (80-IA-type profit deductions, additional depreciation, SEZ). Same as last year is fine.

Marginal relief is not worked out — near a surcharge line the true tax is slightly lower.

How this works

What changed on 1 April 2026. MAT is now 14% of book profit and final — it no longer builds credit. Credit you already have can be used only after you choose the 22% regime, and only up to 25% of each year's tax.

Frozen, not lost. While you stay in the old regime the credit cannot be used, but each year's credit lives to its 15th year. So a later switch may still use what is left — if the open reading of the CBDT FAQs is right.

The open point. FAQ Q.5(iii) reads as if only a switch in 2026-27 keeps the credit; Q.5(vi) and Q.12 say 2026-27 or later. This page shows the cost of waiting under both and picks neither. Confirm with your CA

Why some credit lapses even when you switch. The 25% cap can be smaller than the credit expiring that year; what the cap cannot reach dies at the end of its 15th year.

The write-down. Credit that cannot be used on the route the Board intends is the amount to write down (Ind AS 12 probability; for AS companies, the ICAI Guidance Note's convincing-evidence test). ICAI has issued nothing new on this since the Finance Act 2026 (checked ).

What this page does not do. It does not test whether you qualify for the 22% regime, compute book profit or total income, or model losses tied to the deductions you would give up.

Your data never leaves this browser. This page burns MAT credit under the Income-tax Act, 2025 as amended by the Finance Act 2026 (sections 200 and 206): 25% of each year's tax, oldest credit first, each year's credit ending after its 15th year. Two readings of the CBDT FAQs on when a company may switch are both shown; neither is settled. The 25% base and the year mapping are labelled assumptions. It is not tax or audit advice. The option under section 200 is irrevocable, so have your CA confirm the reading and the deductions you would give up before you file. Statutory rules change; verify against the latest notifications.
