Type each line from the Foreign Assets Information report in your AIS. Answer six questions per line. You get, for every year, whether Schedule FA even applied to you, what the omission actually costs, and which of the five routes is yours. Nothing you type is stored.
Nothing here is saved. It goes on the printed note and nowhere else.
It is an awareness message, not a notice. If you hold a notice with a section and a date, that is beyond this page — take it to a CA now.
s.133(6), s.142(1) or s.148A of the Income-tax Act, 1961, or s.10 of the Black Money Act.
Work out ROR / RNOR / NR for each year first — a free day-count calculator. This page never computes your status; it asks you for it.
Check the message is really from the department before you act on it. Log in to the e-filing portal, open AIS, and use "Authenticate Insight DIN" on the AIS home page — that is the check for an AEOI communication. The Authenticate Notice/Order tool on the e-filing home page is a different one and will not find it.
Run the six questions below whether or not a message arrived: CBDT's own position is that the Schedule FA duty stands "irrespective of whether such assets or income are reflected in AIS".
The route, in the department's own order:
The PDF is password-protected. The password is your PAN in lower case followed by your date of birth as ddmmyyyy — for example abcde1234f01041980. For a non-individual it is the date of incorporation.
Inside, the rows are grouped by country. Each row carries a TSN (transaction sequence number), the financial institution's name, the bank account number, the currency amounts are reported in, four payment columns A Dividend · B Interest · C Gross Proceeds · D Any Other Payments, an INR total row, and the Account Balance in the reported currency.
Which column goes where on this page:
| The report says | Type it into |
|---|---|
| Financial Institution Name (Reporting Entity Name) | Institution |
| Bank Account Number | not needed — this page never asks for it |
| Account Balance (in the reported currency) | Balance, foreign currency |
| the INR total row | Balance (₹) |
| A Dividend · B Interest · D Any Other Payments | Income (₹) |
| C Gross Proceeds | Gross proceeds (₹) — not income |
That last row is the mistake this page exists to catch: gross proceeds are what the account sold, not what it earned.
On timing, the department's own recurring sentence: “Every year, AEOI information pertaining to the preceding Calendar Year begins to be received starting September of the current year.”
One card per line in the Foreign Assets Information report — one account, one calendar year.
The ₹20 lakh test is on all your foreign assets other than immovable property, not just the ones the AIS shows. Lines where you were NR or RNOR are left out of the total — there was no Schedule FA duty that year.
Your letterhead is the only thing kept on this device — never a UDIN, and never any line you typed.
